10 Week summer camp descriptions:
Week ONE 6/24-6/28:
Bringing the Outdoors In
We believe that children learn best through curious investigation of their environment. This week we will explore Hoboken parks to learn about Mother Nature. We will investigate found materials, make potions and art projects with our findings, learn about various types of wood and see what creations we can make together.
Week TWO 7/1-7/3 (*no class 7/4 & 7/5):
Mindfulness & Movement
This week we will enjoy learning about ourselves and other cultures through yoga and dance. We will be dedicating each day to a different part of the world and how movement and costumes play a role in their lives. During the week, we will visit with a yoga instructor to put our learning to practice!
Week Three 7/8-7/12
Folklore & Fairy Tales
Let’s add a dash of magic and some battles between good and evil as we explore the art of storytelling. We will create our own miniature worlds this week with quite a story or two to tell! We will also venture over to the Hoboken Library for a special storytime session!
Week Four 7/15-7/19
Blast from the Past
What’s your favorite dinosaur? I’m sure your child has more than one! Let’s learn about these magnificent creatures this week while we make prints in clay, sift through sand bins for dinosaur bones, explore herbivores favorite foods, dig for dinosaur eggs and go on our very own dinosaur dig in the park!
Week Five 7/22-7/26
A Community of Superheroes
For Hugs & Bugs Club, superhero week is all about helping our local community and meeting the “superheroes” in our own backyard. We’ll explore the different roles people play in our city like Hoboken Fire Department. We will also partner with a local charity to put our creativity to good use.
Week Six 7/29-8/2
Hugs & Bugs Club Marketplace
Did you know shells have been used for thousands of years as currency? This week we will learn about various types of currency through fun math games, evaluate what something is worth, and make our own very own Hugs & Bugs Club market selling our own creations! We’ll also visit a local store so we can practice our math while buying some goodies with our profits.
Week Seven 8/5-8/9
We will dive into a world of knot-making, colored sand, hidden notes, and pirate maps. And to end our awesome Cast Away week, we will use problem-solving and teamwork to complete our very own scavenger hunt around town!
WEek Eight 8/12-8/16
Animals & Mythological Creatures
Animals are amazing and teach us so much about ourselves and the world around us. This week we will learn about land and sea animals as well as the mythological creatures they inspired in literature. To top it off, we will have special “guests” join us for an up close and personal experience!
Week Nine 8/19-8/23
Mixing it up
Many cultures have expressed their love of art through various mediums. This week we will learn about different cultures and the art materials used to make beautiful pieces such as clay, cardboard, negative spaces, wires, wood, paint, yarn, etc.
The week will culminate with our space transforming into an art gallery with the children’s craftsmanship on display for parents, friends, family and neighbors.
Week TEN 8/26-8/30
Planting New Seeds
Our last week brings about a time of new beginnings as we learn about life through gardening. We will enjoy learning about plants, the foods we eat, and how even that magic beans do exist! We will also enjoy a visit to the Hoboken Farmers Market to get a “taste” of fresh, local produce.
