Mommy and me infant and toddler early sensory learning classes in Hoboken, New Jersey and Waldwick, New Jersey. We focus on sensory play, socialization and American Sign Language. Each session is based on a book. Each class is inspired by a page within the book. Each class is a unique experience for the caregiver and child.
The School at Chrysalis Cove is founded on the belief that children are natural born scientists, motivated to learn in a warm and safe environment through exploration, investigation, discovering and solving problems in an organic way. In a world that is mostly hands off for children, we believe it is their job to touch everything they can get their little fingers on because we know it is essential to their mental development. It is our job to give them a safe place to do so. Our space is inspired by nature and sensory development, and is designed to provoke the curiosities and inspiration our little ones.
Our child-centered approach and curriculum include:
A calming nature-filled environment, free of overstimulating elements
Learning through organic, creative exploration
Educational sensory activities aimed at developing gross and fine motor skills
Intimate setting ripe for socialization
Gentle separation, with parent-involvement as desired

Our philosophies are inspired by the great need for sensory development and the Reggio Emilia approach, a pedagogy which values the child as strong, capable and resilient. The children are leaders of their own education with the facilitation of our teachers, families, and peers. Each child holds a strong curiosity to learn more about the world around them. At Chrysalis Cove, we foster this curiosity and the sense of community. Our curriculum is child-centered, driven by our students’ interests and their desire to know more.
What children learn does not follow as an automatic result from what is taught, rather, it is in large part due to the children’s own doing, as a consequence of their activities and our resources.
—Loris Malaguzzi, The Hundred Languages of Children
The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things.
Our 3/4s program provides both integration of play and purposeful teaching focused on building confidence, patience, independence and accountability. It is here where we will deepen the exploration of ideas of the self, nature, science, math, culture, and the creative arts. Their curiosity leads the teachers to design the classes based on the child’s interest and curiosities rather than a strictly academic structure. They learn more when they are intrigued. They learn to troubleshoot and become more independent thinkers, confident in their own capabilities. This class meets Monday thru Friday in the mornings.
Through play, our students will foster their imaginations and sense of community. This program is designed to establish routine, promote socialization skills, and gently prime children for separation. A play-based learning environment promotes independence and creative thinking. This class meets Monday thru Friday in the afternoons, 3-5pm.
