Moms say...

What our mama bugs say about us

"LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Hugs and Bugs! My boys have been going there for over a year taking several classes including the PK drop off classes. Olivia and the teachers are exceptional. They just get kids. Olivia is a mom to two young boys herself and you can see it in her interactions with kids showing love and patience, sharing smiles and hugs with all the little bugs that enter the class. When you observe the class you will see that the classes are totally hands on, interactive. From story time and learning sign language to shared snack time, crafts and fun play with music and lots of energy, you will quickly fall in love with the creativity of the program and the excitement of your little bugs to go to class to play and learn. We have been to a lot of different classes in Hoboken. Hugs and Bugs Club is far and away the best class in mile square." - Stephanie & L & G (Yelp review)

I’ve been blown away by the creativity and close detail each class consistently delivers.
— Audrey & Hunter

I started following Hugs and Bugs on Instagram when they were first becoming a company. I watched in awe at the activities that were hosted in the unique play space each class and decided to enroll my 2 year old so that he could have something of his own to do during the day while his sister was in PreK 4. I've been blown away by the creativity and close detail each class consistently delivers. Whether it's putting shaving cream on a mirror, playing in a blow up pool of balloons or throwing wet cotton balls on a mirror, my son is in love with the class. He started off shy and would sometimes cry when having to move from one activity to the next (he never wanted them to end!) and Olivia and teachers were always so patient and accommodating to those outbursts. There isn't a class like this out there. As a mom of two who has done everything from music to dance to art for kids 6months-2.5 years, this class hits all the educational and fun points of learning! Bonus for my son learning sign language! I highly recommend this class to anyone looking for an activity to do with their child. You will not be disappointed!

I love watching my son explore new textures, have fun, get dirty, and learn all at the same time.

Olivia’s kind and artistic approach to class is such a fun time and without her encouragement we would’ve missed out on one wonderful way to explore and have fun!
— Kathryn & Tommy

My son Tommy and I joined hugs and bugs in November 2016 in the daring Dashers class. On the first class he was a little hesitant to jump right in and we were considering deferring until next semester but we were encouraged by the wonderful owner Olivia to give it one more try! Well boy am I glad we did! On the second class Tommy was totally engaged and loved every minute! Olivia's kind and artistic approach to class is such a fun time and without her encouragement we would've missed out on one wonderful way to explore and have fun!

"Hugs & Bugs Club was a great introduction for our son to what starting school in September will be like and as a mom will even help make that first day of school a little easier to cope with emotionally.  We started out with a mommy and me class last summer and were immediately hooked and signed up for the next available Pre-school Prep session. I knew Miss Olivia's warm and bubbly personality was the perfect match for my son to ease him into a few hours of structured play and learning while making new friends on his own. He looked forward to going each week and would be happy to recap his day when he got home.  I especially loved when he came home wearing a different outfit then I sent him in because that was proof alone that he not only got messy but was totally engrossed in the day's activities. He now wants me to sing him the Hugs and Bugs Club theme song every night before bed. An added bonus--at 2 and half years old he could proudly sign his own name.  Can't say enough wonderful things about Hugs and Bugs Club and how my son has grown into an independent soon-to-be 3-year old ready for Pre-K thanks to Miss Olivia and Miss Raina!" -Stacey and Anthony

My son now wakes up asking for “Hugs and Bugs” every morning!
— Stacy & Blake

I would recommend Hugs and Bugs to anyone in a heartbeat. I have watched my son explore materials he wouldn't get to explore at home and I have watched him grow more courageous every week so that he now dives into all of the sensory bins! The small ratio means every child gets attention and is able to explore the environment to the fullest. My son now wakes up asking for "Hugs and Bugs" every morning! I can't say enough good things.

I am able to meet other mom’s, share stories about our little ones all while learning great new ways to overcome any little obstacle that arrises with my baby.
— Ashley

I am a first time mom and was looking for a place where I could bring my 9 month old to keep her busy and learning. Hugs and Bugs was the perfect fit. She was starting to get some stranger anxiety but these classes were a cure all. Plus, I am able to meet other mom's, share stories about our little ones all while learning great new ways to overcome any little obstacle that arrises with my baby. She has so much fun in all of the classes and I look forward to taking her and meeting with the other moms. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful, I would highly recommend this place to all mom's and caregivers out there.

They keep him so engaged and provide the children with so many wonderful hands on activities.
— Nicole

My 2 and a half year old son is very shy and tends to be very clingy during mom and me classes, but at Hugs and Bugs he is not like that. They keep him so engaged and provide the children with so many wonderful hands on activities. We absolutely love Hugs and Bugs!! So glad we found this class!

"I absolutely LOVE Olivia and Hugs and Bugs! Most telling is the fact that it’s been the highlight of my son’s week for nearly 2 years now, despite many other classes he's in. What differentiates her class from others is her ability to awaken ALL the different senses in every single class, and to turn the most mundane and ordinary objects and materials into something extraordinary and exciting. I still don’t know how she can manage having them play with water, paint, and sand, to name a few, and not have my son looking like Picasso gone wild when he’s done. LOVE how she gives you tips on things to do at home/at a restaurant. Perhaps even more important, she has a magical ability to make everyone feel both accepted and accepting, and empowers kids to do things on their own terms."

I am so glad I have discovered this class, and wish I had found out about it earlier. My daughter looks forward to it and cannot wait to see what surprise Olivia has in store for her. This program truly stands on its own compared to all the other programs we have been taking.

This is my 17 month old’s favorite class, she never wants to leave! We look forward to it each week!!

"Olivia greets us each week with a smile and new sensory bins and activities to play with. She is an extremely talented teacher and educator. I love watching my son explore new textures, have fun, get dirty, and learn all at the same time. Olivia has been so patient with my son; encouraging him in her sweet and gentle way. I see the growth in my son each week as he is becoming more comfortable and confident in trying new things. This class is a MUST for your developing babies and toddlers."

"I've seen a lot of posts recently asking for recommendations for drop off programs so i just wanted to take a minute to share my experience with the most kind and special person Olivia Burks who runs Hugs and Bugs Club. My son recently turned two and we had used mostly family babysitters so i knew drop off would be a bit of a change for him and I. When i had looked around at most programs they were mostly drop off your baby and go. There was no sticking around to see how they do. When i spoke to Olivia about my first time drop off worries she let me know that we would do what was best for Tommy and had a way about her that made you know everything would be okay! During the first class we worked on gentle separation (where i came in and out) and gauged our time on how Tommy was feeling. I remember it being really tough as any first time is and that night I remember thinking will we all be able to continue to do this and will it work and will she still want us as clients lol? That night i get an email from Olivia with words of kindness and support (saying you're a good mom) encouraging us to continue on and saying that she'd even work with us on the weekends. After a few weekends working with Olivia it got much easier and Tommy is starting to transition nicely. So if anyone out there is looking for a unique and fun drop off program run by a kind and caring mom who supports other moms by doing whats best for their baby, please check out the Hugs and Bugs drop off program for their upcoming summer session! You'll be glad you did." - (Facebook) K & T
